Ocoee Area Hiking Trips

Guided Hiking with the Ocoee Adventure Center

Let us share some of our favorite “off the beaten path” places with you! OAC is proud to offer guided hikes for groups of 4 to 40 that are appropriate for most ages and fitness levels. All our hikes are led by people very familiar with the area, its history, flora and fauna.

You can enjoy a relaxing stroll through the forest, immerse yourself underneath a secluded mountain waterfall, and learn about the local wildlife, history, and plant species that can only be found in this “neck of the woods.” We offer both ½ and full day hikes.

We can take you to rarely seen waterfalls, breathtaking mountain vistas, and show you awe-inspiring examples of all the wonders of Mother Nature in the Cherokee National Forest and Ocoee River Gorge. Get ready to be impressed!

Important things to know:

Bring comfortable, supportive footwear that you don’t mind getting wet – many trails cross over creeks during the hike.

Bring weather appropriate clothing – for Summer shorts and a t-shirt are fine, however Spring and Fall can be quite chilly, so you’ll want to avoid cotton!

All hikes are accompanied by guides familiar with and knowledgeable about the area, with advanced first aid training.

If you wish, pack a light pack. Extra snacks and water are always a good thing to have.

Many of our hikes wind up at or near a swimming hole. If you decide to hike with us in the summer, you may want to bring along or wear a bathing suit under your hiking clothes. The temptation of a secluded waterfall or natural pool is just way too enticing on a hot summer day.

Some Potential Hikes:

Rainbow Falls hike is a little under 2 miles one way (4 miles round trip), crossing Rock Creek several times as you walk upstream. The hike ends at beautiful Rainbow Falls, though the more adventurous hikers can scramble upstream a little farther and catch a glimpse of even more beautiful waterfalls as this stream tumbles off of Chilhowee Mountain.

This hike is suitable for anyone in moderate or better physical condition. Truly a hike for all seasons it spring wildflowers along the trail, summer swimming opportunities at the base of the falls, and of course, spectacular colors in the fall.

Old Copper Road: An easy 5 mile hike along the Old Copper Road along the Upper Ocoee River will take you back to a different time. Your guide will explain the history of the trail, which is the last remaining segment of the original road constructed to speed the transport of copper from the mines of the Copperhill area to Cleveland, TN – this was a trip of 33 miles! This hike is appropriate for anyone in moderate or better physical condition.

Ocoee Whitewater Center and Rhododendron Trail: An easy, educational hike of approximately 4 miles total. Here we slow down and take our time pointing out the history of the area, finding native plant species, and allowing you to take lots of photos. Your experienced guide will fill you in on the history of the Ocoee Whitewater Center, the river and how it’s changed through the years. Explore small pools filled with tadpoles and wildflowers, and stand beneath the nearly extinct American Chestnut tree. This easy and laid back hike is appropriate for almost all ages and anyone in decent physical condition.

Many other hikes, many much more advanced than the ones mentioned above are available, give our friendly reservations staff a call today to set up the perfect hike for your group.

Although summer is the most popular time for our adventures, spring and autumn trips abound as well. The Ocoee river gorge area is beautiful in the fall, or you can witness the beauty of rhododendrons in full bloom in spring.
