Whitewater rafting Moon Chute rapid on the Middle Ocoee River in Tennessee in fun and sometimes silly. Moon Chute is located downstream of Slice and Dice and upstream of Double Suck. This video features five different runs of Moon Chute with unique crews. Take 3 of 5 features a high water run of Moon Chute.
The rapid begins near an elephant shaped rock with lines to the left and right. The elephant appears to be facing left. Next there is butt-crack rock with a much preferred line to the right of the rock; this rock lends the name Moon Chute to the rapid. After clearing this gate there is a small ledge often surfed by kayakers. Then the rapid begins to pick up some gradient. There are many ways to run this rapid. Many river guides like to spin on the eddy line created by the elephant rock.
The first ledge in the right chute is a favorite 360 surf spot for many hard boaters. Those wishing to make this rapid easier can paddle down the river left chute instead. The river right chute contains a few fun boof rocks and interesting challenge lines. Below Moon Chute a large eddy waits on river right.
