These are several great campgrounds near the Ocoee River

Ocoee camping is a popular outdoor activity for those who want to explore the mountains, rivers, and lakes of the region. With more than five campgrounds to choose from, there are plenty of options for families, groups, and solo adventurers alike. Campgrounds in the area include Thunder Rock, Chillowee, Gee Creek, Persimmon, and Ocoee RV Park. Each of these campgrounds offers a unique experience with something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a rustic experience or a more modern camping retreat, there is something to suit your needs. Enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area while camping in the heart of the Ocoee region.

USFS Thunder Rock Campground

Thunder Rock Campground is a beautiful spot situated along the Ocoee River. Located 1.8 miles northwest of the Ocoee Whitewater Center. It offers 37 regular campsites with no electricity, perfect for popups and RVs less than 20 feet, as well as one group campsite with electricity. This campground is a great spot for whitewater and trail enthusiasts. Providing a variety of activities such as fishing, swimming, tubing, and hiking. It also has picnic tables, and fire rings for campers to use. The cost to camp at Thunder Rock is affordable and the campground follows all the necessary regulations. Alcohol is prohibited. It is definitely a great place to spend a few days and take advantage of the many activities offered in the area.

USFS Chillowee Campground

Chillowee Campground is a perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful getaway in the beautiful Tennessee mountains. With its lush forests and nearby McKamy Lake. Visitors are sure to enjoy the abundance of wildlife, swimming, and fishing opportunities. The campground offers a variety of facilities and amenities. Including a large open area with picnic tables and a grill, RV sites with electric hookup, and a bathhouse with flushing toilets and showers. For those who want to explore the area, there are approximately 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, including the Chilhowee Trails System, and fishing is available on the seven-acre McKamy Lake. Whether you are looking for a secluded spot to disconnect from the world or a place to make lasting memories with friends and family, Chillowee Campground is a great choice.

TN State Parks Gee Creek Campground

Gee Creek Campground is the perfect destination for those seeking an outdoor adventure in a peaceful, natural setting. Whether you are seeking a weekend of fishing, a week of relaxation, or a month-long vacation, Gee Creek Campground has something to offer. With 47 sites to choose from, there is sure to be one that fits your needs and desires. Plus, the campground has a Group Camp field with 8 separate sites, making it the perfect spot for family reunions or group camping trips. With its close proximity to the river and public water and bathhouse facilities, Gee Creek Campground is the perfect spot for your next outdoor getaway.

Private Persimmon Campground

Persimmon Campground is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. Located conveniently near the Ocoee River, Persimmon Campground offers a variety of amenities to ensure a fun and relaxing stay. Trout fishing and gem mining are available on the adjoining property, as well as free WIFI. The campground is owner operated and offers reasonable rates for tents and RVs. Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway or an extended stay, Persimmon Campground has everything you need for a memorable outdoor experience. This private campground unlike the above public one permits alcohol.

Ocoee RV Park

The Ocoee RV Park offers a variety of amenities, including a heated swimming pool, laundry facilities, and a game room. Campers will also enjoy a full hook-up, with 30-amp and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV. You’ll have plenty of room to move around with spacious pull-through sites and tree-lined back-in sites that can accommodate any size RV. There’s also plenty of storage for kayaks and rafts. Ocoee RV Park is a perfect retreat for any nature lover.

USFS Parksville Lake RV Campground

All in all, Parksville Lake RV Campground offers something for everyone, from fishing and hiking to swimming and whitewater rafting. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Cherokee National Forest and the convenience of a well-maintained campground.

Primitive Camping Options

There are many campgrounds in the area. We have listed the most family friendly and maintained ones here. There is also primitive camping opportunities in the Cherokee National Forest for the more adventurous and prepared. The abandoned town of Caney Creek could be an interesting place to camp.
