The Middle Ocoee whitewater rafting starts off with a bang. Because immediately upon leaving the eddy at the put-on ramp is the first rapid with a powerful ledge named Grumpy. Watch this video of Grumpy’s Ledge rapid from the perspective of a river guide:
Ocoee Adventure Center Middle Ocoee rafting trips warm up in the lake above Ocoee Dam #2. So our guests can practice strokes, safety procedures, and learn commands before entering any whitewater. Plus warming up on the lake is also a great way to get the blood flowing and warm up muscles. Earning the ride, we carry our rafts down the ramp from the top of the dam to the put-in eddy at the foot of the ramp. So the real fun begins at the base of the ramp. Grumpy / Snow White / Entrance is a benchmark class III rapid in the Southeast
Leaving the put-in ramp your raft guide will make a controlled peel out that many folks may even refer to as a ferry. But boat angle is critical as the guide and crew work together to thread the raft between Pyramid Rock and White Face Rock. By the way White Face is named for the expression on a guide’s face when he or she realizes a pin may occur. After easily clearing White Face Rock your raft will follow the wave train to the tongue through Grumpy’s Ledge. The thrill of dropping over Grumpy’s Ledge the first time is often caught in memorable photographs by our experienced photographers.
