Due to the onset of COVID 19, we have closed our Outpost until May 2. The Ocoee River is closed for commercial rafting until April 18, but we have decided to be more cautious and extend our opening date out of a concern for our customers and staff. May 2nd will be our first Ocoee rafting date for the 2020 season.

Double Suck Rapid on the Ocoee River in Tennessee
Whitewater rafting Double Suck rapid on the Middle Ocoee River can be a fun and thrilling experience. Double Suck is below Moon Chute rapid and directly above Hell’s Half Mile rapid on the Middle Ocoee River. This rapid is named Double Suck for the two back to back hydraulics at the bottom. The rapid begins mildly with a little rock dodging and a few small ledges. Towards the bottom near a large boulder island the pace picks up as the raft approaches a large ledge. Below the ledge are two back to back holes or hydraulics. The second hole is much stickier than the first.
River Play and Surfing
Tennessee whitewater rafting is all about the surfing. While it is possible to eddy out behind the island and avoid the holes, some opt to drop surf the second hole know as double suck. The above video shows some Double Suck surfing action as well as a several runs of the rapid with different crews. So when you come to raft the Ocoee let your guide know what kind of ride you want.
Kayaks and Canoes
Hard boats have a variety of challenge lines and sneaks to choose from above Double Suck. The classic line is the same run by rafts. Many hard boater run a boof line to the right of the double hydraulic. Double Suck is a benchmark southeastern class III rapid.
